John and Judy Davenport have three children and four grand-children. They began their ministry with the Paxton Church of Christ in January 1991. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible from Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, Missouri and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, Lincoln, IL.

 

John provides instructive, Christ-centered teaching that provides practical and effective answers for today’s problems and challenges. His main focuses are serving his Lord by encouraging, uplifting and meeting the needs of people, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.  He has three scriptures that he holds very dear:

 

Jeremiah 29:13--Our God is speaking..."You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." 

 

Jeremiah 32:17--"Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have  made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you." 

 

Eph. 2:10-11--"His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms.  according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord." 

 

John believes with his whole heart, and serves others with the belief that, with God, nothing is impossible.

Ed King, Associate Pastor

 

Ed King, born in 1962, came to Christ and was baptized in 1996. He is married to Anita, and they have two children, Kelsie, 21 and Evan 13.  Ed received his Bachelor’s Degree from Lincoln Christian College in 2006 and plans to begin work on a Master’s Degree next year.  He  has been the  Associate Minister at Paxton Church of Christ since 2001.

 

 

 

Ed's ministry passions are:

 

Servant evangelism,

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to  please ourselves. Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself."  Romans 15: 1-3

 

Discipleship,

"...to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."  Ephesians 4:12-13

 

Mission trips. 

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19

 

Ed's favorite Bible verse is 1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”   He believes that the Christian life is lot more than a bus ticket to heaven.  It’s a way of living like Jesus that should impact every aspect of our lives and every person around us.

Karla Young, Secretary

Karla has been the secretary at Paxton Church of Christ for at least 13 years.  She has been attending PCC since she was a child in grade school! She and her husband, Larry, live on a farm in Buckley and have two children, Lori and Scott, as well as four grandchildren.

Karla's favorite verse is Isaiah 40:31, "But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
